Van Persie out, Llorente in?

Selling Robin Van Persie to Manchester United is not the most welcome news of the summer. But given the situation he created with his public statement it is better news than not selling him. Not selling him would have made the rest of the transfer window a mess, it would have meant a disaffected key player and what would have been done about the captaincy? If we really have got over £20million then that is making the best of a bad job.

So what other transfer business is on the cards? Various media sites are re-running the Fernando Llorente story. The Athletic Bilboa striker is apparently not going to sign a new deal. Time was when you couldn’t see Arsene Wenger going for a 27 year-old with twenty internationals under his cap, this summer has been a little different. Still just rumour for now and maybe Giroud is Plan A for the central strike force. Some would argue that the money needs to to be spent more on a midfield enforcer.

Which brings us to another transfer story. What’s the situation with Song? Arsene Wenger has been damping down Song move talk but the Spanish press are still fairly convinced that Barcelona are serious. It could be an interesting few days. If Song is to depart I hope we are in for a genuine DM. Coquelin or Frimpong could turn out to be the answer but you wouldn’t bet the farm on either right now.
